Taipei, Nov. 19 (CNA) European home furnishing company IKEA is planning to open its seventh outlet in Taiwan next year, in the heart of a business district in Taipei, according to a spokesperson.

The new store will be opened in the first half of 2020 on Jiuzong Road in Neihu District, where the hypermarket chain RT Mart is now located, Wu Yu-han (吳語涵), a spokesperson for IKEA Taiwan, told reporters earlier this week.

Wu said the IKEA store in Neihu will be one of many brands housed in a large shopping mall, similar to the Breeze plaza in the Dunhua business district where one of the existing six IKEA outlets in Taiwan is located.

In Neihu, the other brands in the mall will include Costco, LEECO, Carrefour, and another RT Mart, which will allow for more convenient shopping in holiday periods, Wu said.

IKEA, a home furnishing brand founded in Sweden and now based in the Netherlands, is upbeat about the Taiwan market and the potential of the Neihu business area, which tends to draw large numbers of shoppers, he said.

Since IKEA entered the Taiwan market in 1994, it has opened two stores in New Taipei, and one each in Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung, covering the country from north to south.

The Taichung store is the largest, with a floor area of 3,333 square meters.

According to local property sales agents, the new IKEA outlet in Neihu will be about 2,300 square meters and will cost the company over NT$9 million (US$296,052) a month in rent.
