Rome, July 12 (CNA) China Airlines (CAL), one of Taiwan's leading carriers, said Thursday it will increase the number of weekly non-stop flights between Taiwan and Rome from two to three starting this month as it works to expand the European travel market.

Since introducing non-stop flights to Rome in December 2016, CAL has seen steady growth in ticket sales and therefore decided to add one weekly flight on the route, using its new Airbus A350 aircraft, to bring more travelers from Italy to Taiwan, said Jeff Tsai (蔡光政), general manager of CAL Italy Branch Office.

To provide passengers with more convenient flight services, CAL has also expanded its codeshare partnership with Alitalia, allowing passengers from major cities in Italy to travel to Taiwan by transferring to the Rome-Taipei flight.

The codeshare arrangement will cover Alitalia passengers from Venice, Milan, Florence in northern Italy and Palermo and Catania in the south.

The airline's three flights are scheduled to depart Rome at 11:05 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and land at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 5:45 a.m. local time the next day, the airline said.
