Taipei, June 19 (CNA) Taiwan-based smartphone brand HTC Corp. (宏達電) said Monday that its most-coveted solar red-colored HTC U11 model will go on pre-order sale online at midnight.

Before the confirmation of the pre-order sale, HTC had posted on its Facebook page since July 17 to deliver the message of a countdown with an image of the solar red U11, for which many consumers have waited since the flagship model was unveiled on May 16.

In the initial global sales, HTC offered four colors -- silver, blue, black and white -- while keeping many consumers waiting for the red model.

The U11 flagship model is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 835 processor and the Adreno 540 GPU, making it one of the fastest smartphones on the market.

In addition, the U11, with an ultra high-definition 5.5-inch display, is equipped with an "Edge Sense" function that allows users to squeeze the phone to activate features such as the camera, Facebook, or other apps.

Last week, HTC said that the new phone has received good reviews and sales of the flagship model have topped those of its predecessors -- the HTC M10 and the HTC M9 -- in less than one month after the launch.

HTC said that the long order backlog will make it unlikely for the U11 model to completely be delivered until early July.

In Taiwan, the U11 model carries a starting price tag of NT$19,900 (US$656), the lowest price for any flagship phones in 20 years.

In May, HTC posted NT$4.53 billion in consolidated sales, the lowest monthly level so far this year, down 4 percent from a month earlier and also down 33 percent from a year earlier, since the company was in a product transition period.

In the first five months of this year, HTC's consolidated sales totaled NT$23.78 billion, down 13 percent from a year earlier.

Market analysts said that the presence of the U11 could boost HTC shipments in the coming months.
