In addition, Taiwanese mixed doubles pair Wang and Cheng scored a 21-11, 16-21 and 21-18 hard fought victory over Hong Kong's Tang Chun-man (鄧俊文) and Tse Ying-suet (謝影雪).

They will next face Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia.

Also on Friday, Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen (周天成) fell short in his bid to advance to the men's singles semifinal after losing to China's Chen Long (諶龍) 17-21, 17-21.
