Taiwanese badminton ace reaches final at Thailand Open

Taipei, Aug. 3 (CNA) Taiwan's top male badminton player Chou Tien-chen (周天成) defeated his Malaysian opponent Saturday to reach the final of the 2019 Thailand Open in Bangkok Saturday.

The 29-year old Chou beat Lee Zii Jia 21-14, 22-20 in the semifinal match at the Indoor Stadium Huamark, marking his third victory against his opponent in five of their previous encounters.

Chou, the World No. 3, is aiming for his second championship title Sunday, after bagging his first trophy at the Indonesia Open in July.

He is scheduled to meet either Kenta Tsuneyama of Japan or Ka Long Angua Ng of Hong Kong, depending on the result of their semifinal match to be held later Saturday.

The 2019 Thailand Open, the 16th tournament of the 2019 Badminton World Federation World Tour, carries a total purse of US$350,000.
