Taiwan finished 6th at FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship in India

Taipei, Nov. 2 (CNA) Taiwan finished 6th place after losing to New Zealand at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) U18 Women's Asian Championship in Bengaluru, India on Friday.

Taiwan lost to New Zealand 47-75 in the fifth and sixth place classification game.

New Zealand wasted no time to warm up quickly, which saw them widen the score 10-2 in the first quarter. Despite Taiwan's efforts to catch up, the quarter finished with New Zealand leading 14-9.

In the second quarter, New Zealand made good use of their free throws and shots from outside the key to finish the first half 37-21.

Taiwan went all out to catch up in the third quarter, scoring 18 points, which turned out to be a minor blip in New Zealand's defense, as Taiwan earned only 8 points in the last quarter.

The top performer for Taiwan was Hsu Shih-han (徐詩涵), who scored 11 points, caught three rebounds and made one assist, while Leah Mafua of New Zealand scored 13 points, caught 3 rebounds and made 3 assists.

Earlier, Taiwan lost to South Korea 56-64 and Australia 66-106, Sunday and Monday, respectively, and ended up defeating Indonesia 99-54 Tuesday, during the group phase of the tournament.

Taiwan also lost to China 80-53 during the qualifications on Thursday to fall into the fifth and sixth place classification game on Friday.

The tournament, held Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, comprised of eight teams each in Division A and Division B. Taiwan played in Division A.
