Paris, Oct. 26 (CNA) Taiwanese badminton star Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) and men's duo Lee Yang (李洋) and Lee Jhe-huei (李哲輝) beat their opponents in the quarterfinals of the French Open (Yonex IFB) on Friday to cruise to the semifinals of the women's singles and men's doubles events, respectively.

Tai, ranked number one in the world for women's singles, defeated the former world No. 1 Saina Nehwal of India 22-20, 21-11 in a match that only lasted 36 minutes. The latest win is Tai's 12th successive victory against Nehwal.

Tai will next compete against Chen Yufei (陳雨菲) of China Saturday. Chen is currently No. 5 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Rankings.

Meanwhile, the Taiwanese men's duo knocked out the Russian team of Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov 21-19, 17-21, 22-20 in a match that lasted an hour. They will face a Chinese duo in the semifinals.

Tai and the Taiwanese men captured the women's singles and the men's doubles titles at Yonex IFB last year, respectively, and now seek to defend their titles.

According to the two male players, they have been struggling since the title and trying to get the momentum back. Now the duo will focus on improving their defense and maintaining a high level of performance in every match, the Lees said.
