Taiwan's Chan Hao-ching ousted from women's doubles at Wuhan Open

Taipei, Sept. 24 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis player Chan Hao-ching (詹皓晴) and her Chinese partner Yang Zhaoxuan (楊釗煊) were knocked out of the women's doubles in the first round at the 2018 Wuhan Open in China on Monday.

Chan and Yang, ranked 27th and 23rd worldwide, respectively, lost to world No. 18 Nicole Melichar of the United States and world No. 13 Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 5-10 in a nail- biting game that lasted 105 minutes.

In the first set, Chan and Yang warmed up quickly to secure a 4-2 lead, but their defenses were worn down by Melichar and Peschke, who tied the score 6-6.

Melichar and Peschke won the tiebreaker 7-4 to take the first set.

The tables turned in the second set as Chan and Yang came back to win 6-2.

In the final set, however, Melichar and Peschke secured four straight points early, after which Chan and Yang fought hard to close the gap and ended the set 5-6.

However, Melichar and Peschke took the last set, scoring another four straight points to finish 10-5.

The 2018 Wuhan Open, a women's tennis tournament that was launched in 2014, is being held Sept. 23-29 in China, with total purse of US$2.4 million.
