According to the official website of the 2018 Asian Games, Lien progressed to the bronze medal event by defeating Chindamany Xayavongsa of Laos 10-0 and then losing to Lu Tongjuan (盧童娟) of China 0S1-1 in the quaterfinals.

Lien then made good use of the repechage where she defeated Jandi Kim of South Korea 10S2-0S2 to advance to the bronze medal event, the website indicated.

According to an ETtoday online report after the event that day, Lien said she had originally set her sights on the gold medal and was devastated to lose in the quaterfinals but her coach told her to refocus for the repechage.

"I prepared very well for the Asian Games, but a small mistake had a big impact on the outcome," Lien said.
