Jakarta, Aug. 29 (CNA) Taiwan's Cheng Chu-ling (鄭竹玲) snagged a silver medal in the women's singles soft tennis competition at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta after losing to Japanese Noa Takahashi 3-4 in the final Wednesday.

Cheng took an early lead 1-0 after winning the first set in the match, which was played in a format of best of seven sets, but lost the following two sets. She managed to tie with Takahashi 3-3 in a hard-fought seesaw battle but was eventually defeated after losing the last set 2:7.

According to her coach Tsai Yu-ming (蔡育銘), Cheng was edged out mainly because she did not handle the drop shots from her opponent well.

"This is something we should pay attention to in upcoming competitions," Tsai said.

Nonetheless, Cheng did her best and "we were completely won over," the coach said.

It is the third time Cheng is competing in the Asian Games.

Four years ago at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, she won two bronze medals in soft tennis competitions -- in the women's doubles and women's team events.
