Taiwan reaches semifinals of World University Baseball Championship

Taipei, July 9 (CNA) Taiwan overpowered the Czech Republic 11-0 Sunday at the 2018 FISU World University Baseball Championship in Chiayi City, southern Taiwan, to reach the second round of the tournament.

The ease of the victory was largely down to a brilliant performance by starting pitcher Wei Shou-cheng (魏碩成), who gave up no hits in the first four innings.

Wei pitched in seven innings of the match and only gave up one hit in the fifth inning. His performance also included 10 strikeouts. The game ended in the eighth inning.

Taiwan defeated South Korea 11-2 Saturday in a Group-A game and with the win over the Czech team, now proceeds to the next round of the international baseball tournament.
