Taiwanese tennis veteran cruises to 3rd round of Wimbledon

London, July 5 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis veteran Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) beat Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino of Spain 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the women's singles at Wimbledon Thursday.

This marked Hsieh's second career success in making it to the third round of the grand slam in London since 2012.

The Taiwanese, who is 48th in the world rankings, defeated the Spaniard in a game that lasted just 65 minutes.

Hsieh will next face either Simona Halep of Romania or Saisai Zheng (鄭賽賽) of China in the third of the tournament.

In the women's doubles game played on Wednesday, Hsieh and her Czech partner Lucie Hradecka beat British players Katie Boulter and Katie Swan 6-3, 6-2 to move on to the second round.

Wimbledon 2018 kicked off on July 2 and will run through July 15.
