Manila, July 5 (CNA) Taiwan beat the Philippines in the final of the LLB Junior League Baseball Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament in Manila on Thursday, winning a place in the LLB World Series in the United States.

The Taiwanese team got off to a slow start, trailing 1-2 after the second inning.

However, the team, made up of players from Hsin Ming Junior High School in Taoyuan, quickly recovered by scoring runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to win the game 7-2.

Despite the less than ideal start, Taiwan team head coach Huang Wei-chih (黃湋志) said his young players managed to come back strong.

"I told them to remain calm and only swing at pitches they felt comfortable with," Huang said.

A total of five countries and territories participated in the tournament, including China, Hong Kong, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Taiwan, and the host country the Philippines.

The Taiwan team now advances to the LLB Junior League World Series scheduled for Aug. 12-19 in Taylor, Michigan.
