Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis players secured a 2-0 lead against Iran in the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group II match in Taipei Saturday.

Taiwan's Jason Jung (莊吉生) beat Iran's Amirvala Madanchi 6-3, 6-3 after the game was delayed 90 minutes due to rain.

The rain also affected the court, Jung said, adding "it made the game really hard to play."

His opponent also loudly celebrated the points he won, which Jung said he found annoying, adding that he chose to save his strength and wait until later into the game before he started celebrating.

Taiwan's Yang Tsung-hua (楊宗樺) beat Iran's Shahin Khaledan 6-4, 6-3.

Yang said it was the first time he had played Shahin, which perhaps made him a little eager at first. Fortunately, after his coach got him to calm down and he was better able to concentrate and perform as expected.

In the upcoming doubles match, Taiwan's Hsieh Cheng-peng (謝政鵬) and Peng Hsien-yin (彭賢尹) will meet Iran's Mohammad Kargaranoroochi and Ashkan Shokoofi Sunday which will be followed by two singles matches with Jung playing against Khaledan and Yang against Madanchi.
