Taiwanese table tennis player loses in Yokohama semi-finals

Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Taiwan's Cheng I-ching (鄭怡靜) lost to China's Zhu Yuling in the semi-finals of the 2018 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)-Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) Asian Cup held in Yokohama Saturday.

Cheng lost 4-1 in games, to Zhu 11-8, 11-6, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6, halting her advance after four consecutive victories.

The fifth-seeded Cheng overpowered No. 6 seed South Korea's Suh Hyowon earlier in the day in the women's singles semifinals with 4-2 in games. She took the first three games 11-6, 12-10 and 11-2 before losing the next two 4-11 and 11-13, then regrouped in the sixth game which she won 11-6.

Cheng will face Kasumi Ishikawa Sunday for third place.

Ishikawa lost in her semi-final to China's Chen Meng with 4-1 in games, 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 11-5, 11-9.

The 2018 ITTF-ATTU Asian Cup is held from April 6-8.
