Taipei, March 10 (CNA) A tug-of-war team made up of students from Taipei Jingmei Girls' High School (TJGHS) and National Taiwan Normal University beat a team from China to win the 540-kilogram category at the 2018 Tug of War International Federation (TWIF) Indoor World Championships in Xuzhou, China on Saturday.

Taiwan won all six matches in the round-robin section of the competition to advance to the semifinals, where it defeated the Netherlands 2-0.

In the final, the Taiwanese team fell behind, then tied the competition and won the tie-break, beating their Chinese opponents 2-1 to win the gold medal.

This was Taiwan's second gold medal at the event, after the team snatched the women's under-23 500kg category on Thursday, according to a Taipei City Department of Education press release.

This year's event is being held at the Xuzhou Olympic Sports Center until March 11.
