Taipei, March 2 (CNA) Taiwan's first Asian Football Confederation (AFC) certified professional club team, Hang Yuen FC, will be the first Taiwanese team to participate in the 2018 AFC Cup.

Hang Yuen has been drawn in the tournament's Group I, which also includes Benfica de Macau, North Korea's 4.25 SC and Hwaebul SC. Hang Yuen will face Benfica de Macau March 7 in Macau.

Hang Yuen coach Hung Ching-huai (洪慶懷) said the matches will be tough, but added that the team has an age and speed advantage.

"Even though if every game will be hard, our only objective is to strive to win," Hung said.

In 2017, Hang Yuen competed in the Taiwan Football Premier League, placing third.

The AFC Cup is the highest level of competition for clubs in Asia, Hung noted.

Hang Yuen's participation in the tournament will allow the world to see the quality of Taiwan's football and will also allow Taiwanese football fans to see great, competitive games, said Hung.

Following the match with Benfica de Macau, Hang Yuen will play on its home turf in Taiwan against 4.25 SC March 14, against Hwaebul SC April 11 in North Korea, against Hwaebul SC again in Taiwan April 25, against Benfica de Macau in Taiwan May 2 and against 4.25 SC May 16 in North Korea.

The AFC cup is run by the Asian Football Confederation and is an annual competition between clubs from AFC-affiliated countries.
