Singapore, Oct. 28 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis player Chan Yung-jan (詹詠然) and Martina Hingis of Switzerland were knocked out in the women's doubles semifinals at the BNP Paribas Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Finals in Singapore Saturday.

Top-seeded Chan and Hingis were defeated 4-6, 6(5)-7 by Timea Babos of Hungary and Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic.

"Overall, we did pretty well today," Chan said after the tournament, commending Babos and Hlavackova for their strong performance.

Their aggressive net play gave us a lot of pressure, Chan added.

The defeat halted the pair's 19th consecutive match victory since the Wuhan and Beijing tournaments in September and early October, in which they won both titles.

Despite losing the opportunity for a spot in the Singapore finals, Chan and Hingis have seen great success this year after winning nine titles together, including the U.S. Open.

Commenting on the break in their consecutive match victories, Chan said she has no regrets, adding that 2017 has generally been a very good year for them.

"Career-wise, it was a successful year," she said, adding that she will work to excel even further.

With regard to Hingis, who announced her retirement earlier this week, the Taiwanese player said she has been in talks to find a new doubles partner, but no final decision has been made.

Asked whether her partner's retirement announcement affected her level of play Saturday, Chan said she was already aware of Hingis' planned retirement, and that everything was normal.

On Thursday, Chan said it is a great honor to be Hingis' last partner, adding that she is happy to have achieved so much this season and has many good memories of their partnership.

Last week, the WTA named Chan and Hingis the 2017 Doubles Team of the Year, the first time a Taiwanese tennis player has been included in such an honor.
