Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) Taiwan lost to Japan 1-6 in the 2017 Asian Baseball Championship final at Xinzhuang, New Taipei Sunday.

Taiwan's Liao Chun-kai (廖俊凱) scored the team's only run on a second-base hit by Lin Han (林瀚) in the top of the sixth inning.

Japan scored one run in the bottom of the sixth after scoring five runs in the fifth that included Kitamura Shoji's solo.

Taiwan's starting pitcher Lu Yen-ching (呂彥青) pitched for 4.2 innings, allowing four hits.

The 2017 Asian Baseball Championship was held Oct. 2-8 with seven teams participating after China failed to show up.

Defending champion South Korea was third, followed by the Philippines.
