Taipei, Sept. 4 (CNA) Indigenous athletes from Taiwan's Palapay village bagged three gold and one silver medals at the 7th Korea Open Busan International Dragon Boat Festival on the weekend.

The two-day event, which concluded on Saturday, featured 20 teams from 14 countries, namely Australia, Canada, Russia, Singapore, Qatar, the United States, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Taiwan and the host South Korea.

The team, from the Amis indigenous tribe, returned to Palapay village in Taitung on Monday, where they were greeted with festivities that included firecrackers, food and drinks.

The team placed second in the Pingtung Donggang Dragon Boat Festival earlier this year and had the good fortune of being selected to represent Taiwan at the Busan festival, team captain Wang Chih-wei (王志偉) said.
