Post office to offer Universiade-themed products and services

Taipei, Aug. 8 (CNA) Chunghwa Post Co., Taiwan's official postal service, said on Tuesday it will provide a wide range of products and services based on the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade which runs from Aug. 19-30.

The company will issue commemorative stamps on Aug. 16, which feature the event mascot "Bravo" taking part in various sports favored by Taiwanese athletes.

These include an eight-stamp set -- four with NT$5 (US$0.16) postage and four with NT$15 -- as well as a miniature sheet featuring a NT$25 stamp, the company said.

The sports represented on the stamps include basketball, baseball, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and taekwondo.

A unique feature of the stamps is that they come in the shape of parallelogram, with a tiny torch hidden in the perforation, the company said.

There will also be a temporary post office at Taipei Arena, where many of the events take place, said company official Lee Chu-li (李諸禮).

The Taipei Arena post office will be available for 2 days, on the opening day and the last day of the competition, he said.

Members of the public can also visit local post offices and ask to have objects stamped with the official logo of the Universiade free of charge from Aug. 16, according to the office.

Lee added that more over 20,000 Universiade-themed parcel boxes went on sale from Aug. 4 and have been well-received by the public. "We are about to run out," he said.

The 2017 Summer Universiade is the biggest international sports event for university athletes, with more than 7,600 athletes from 131 countries competing in 21 sports.
