Taipei, April 24 (CNA) Encouraged by the success of hit television series "The Teenage Psychic," a joint venture between HBO Asia and Taiwan's Public Television Service Foundation (PTS), PTS has decided to step up cooperation with foreign film-making companies.

PTS plans to increase its involvement in international ventures, Jessie Shih (施悅文), director of the International Department at PTS, told CNA on Monday.

Other than "The Teenage Psychic," PTS, the first independent public broadcasting institution in Taiwan, is set to work with a Japanese film commission based in Kitakyushu City, Kukuoka Prefecture shooting an original film, she said.

"The Teenage Psychic" is HBO Asia's first original Chinese-language series filmed in Taiwan. It is also PTS's first international project working with Singapore-headquartered HBO Asia.

The series was first broadcast on April 2 on both PTS and HBO Asia, which is available in more than 20 countries and areas in Asia, including Taiwan. The broadcast on Sunday evening has since received stellar viewing figures in Taiwan, according to PTS.

Shih said, although the series was produced as a joint venture, it remains at heart a "Taiwanese" soap opera. The series also marks an important step in Taiwan displaying its TV and film making talent to the world, she added.

The series features a teenage girl who can communicate with the spirit world and works as a professional psychic at a local temple. Director and script writer Chen Ho-yu (陳和榆) has said that despite its religious elements the story is all about "people."

"Love and care are integral to Taiwanese folk beliefs, which are full of human feelings and imagination," Chen said.

The last two episodes of the six-episode series will be broadcast on April 30, according to PTS.
