Taipei, April 2 (CNA) Taiwanese badminton player Hsueh Hsuan-yi (薛軒億) lost to Japan's Yu Igarashi 25-23, 21-14 in the men's final of the Osaka International Challenge in Japan on Sunday.

It took 45 minutes for the unseeded Igarashi to beat the sixth-seeded Hsueh in the US$20,000 tournament.

The 31-year-old Hsueh had been a top-100 player from 2010 to 2012 but his ranking gradually fell after that and he tumbled outside the top 400 in mid-2016.

He has since played himself back into the top 100 and was ranked 65th in the world in men's singles in the latest rankings.
