Taipei, March 31 (CNA) Former National Basketball Association (NBA) star Shawn Marion met with fans in Taipei on Friday after having visited several colleges in Kaohsiung and Taichung earlier this week.
Marion, who had arrived in Taiwan late Sunday, was invited to meet with 10 lucky China Airlines (CAL) customers who purchased tickets between February 1 and March 22 as part of the "Fly to Your Dream" campaign.
He was also joined by five former players from the airline's female basketball team at the promotional event held at the company's indoor court in Taipei and hosted by CAL Chairman Ho Nuan-hsuan (何煖軒).
The CAL executive tried a few three-point shots under the guidance of the former NBA star, who in turn received a special "Matrix" edition model of CAL's new A350 passenger aircraft.
Speaking at the event, Ho said China Airlines and NBA Taiwan were partnering for the first time to invite the four-time NBA All-star to act as a "private shooting coach" for China Airlines fans.
The airline, he said, was committed to supporting basketball and welcome athletes from around the world to boost the international profile of Taiwan.
Nicknamed "The Matrix," Shawn was widely regarded as one of the most versatile players in the NBA because he was able to play various positions on the court.
Shawn, who last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2014-15 season, retired from the NBA after playing for 16 seasons.
