Taipei, Feb. 21 (CNA) A unit from the China's People's Liberation Army air force, including reconnaissance planes and jet fighters, flew through the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines as part of a long-range flight training mission in the western Pacific Wednesday, according to Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND).

A military source, who requested anonymity, told CNA that the PLA unit of Xi'an H-6K bombers, Shaanxi Y-8 electronic signal intelligence planes and J-11 fighters flew through the Bashi Channel at around noon Wednesday. They came from Guangdong province in southern China, the source said.

After completing their training mission, the aircraft returned along the same flight path, added the source.

MND spokesman Chen Chung-chi (陳中吉) said Taiwan's military, which always monitors Chinese military closely, was aware of the maneuvers.
