Taipei, Feb. 5 (CNA) The Civil Aviation Authority of Macau announced on Monday that it has approved 80 extra charter flights for the Lunar New Year holiday, of which 24 will fly between the special administrative region and Taiwan.

The 80 additional flights approved were twice as many as allowed last year so that airlines could increase their capacity enough to meet the strong demand for flights this holiday period, according to a statement released by the aviation authority.

The operators of the additional flights include Air Macau, Juneyao Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines.

The 56 extra flights on routes not destined for Taiwan will connect Macau with China, Vietnam, Japan and Thailand.

The extra flights began on Sunday and will be provided until Feb. 26, it said.
