Taipei, Sept. 25 (CNA) A Chinese fishing boat and its crew were seized and detained after they were caught fishing in waters near Taoyuan, according to the Hsinchu Coast Guard on Monday evening.

The captain, whose name has yet to be disclosed, admitted to fishing in Taiwan waters 20 nautical miles off the coast of Taoyuan when questioned by local officers, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

According to Hsinchu authorities, the waters off the west coast of Taiwan from Taoyuan to Miaoli are considered one of the major fishing grounds for Taiwanese boats, and Chinese vessels poaching in Taiwanese waters will not be tolerated.

The 15 crew members, along with the captain, were handed over to authorities in Taipei Port on suspicion of violating the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area, the Coast Guard said.
