Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) The opposition Kuomintang (KMT) aims to promote sustainable peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait by pushing for exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, according to a draft policy platform approved Wednesday by its Central Standing Committee (CSC).

The new policy will also retain a five-point consensus reached in 2005 between then-KMT Chairman Lien Chan (連戰) and then-Communist Party of China General Secretary Hu Jintao (胡錦濤) on fostering cross-strait development based on the mutual understanding of a "one China, different interpretations" principle that falls under the "1992 consensus," according to the CSC.

According to the new draft, the KMT will continue to promote the status quo of peace and stability across the strait under the framework of the ROC Constitution, and to foster sustainable cross-strait development for the benefit of the Taiwanese people.

Drafted under the theme of "Innovation, Solidarity, and Returning to Power," the draft policy is expected to be approved by the KMT National Congress on Aug. 20, according to the CSC.
